highlights of 2009 at the cabin

What a year 2009 has been at the log cabin

Its a year in which Eamonn and David discovered Demon Babes.
We made a movie in 48 Hours, a super sweet horror movie

We grew our own veges then had people round to eat them....
some even left nice messagesDavid discovered crafts,.... and funny edge cutting scissors
learned to knit
the crackhouse 5 played in his bedroom
and he got really wasted at the silver scrolls.

We had some awesome neighbours too... S.A.C.K's.... who we took with us to a cat show
ahh cat shows.... later that week Netta got drunk and told Marcus she had met a cat at the show named after him, because it was so tall. Nice work.
David found a whiteboard on a vacant lot, it's been awesome for stuff like decreeing the passing of the lumberjack slam.

One night, Netta made us mashed potato volcanos for dinner. Yum.

More whiteboard action

There was an afternoon where we tried our hand at screenprinting. This is T'Nealles Aidan from above T-shirt.

David had a wikipedia party for his birthday, and T'Nealle and Fran fashioned a hat to meet Fran's wikipedia entry.
Later there was drunkeness and Fran decided Hollan needed a Mexican Gangster tattoo... Burrito!

And of course there was lots of chilling on the couch bed, and picnics in the front yard.

So August is nearly over

And you might have noticed a lack of posts on thoughts from the log cabin.
It is perhaps because Melinda, Eamonn, Netta and David have all been studying hard at Uni this semester.

Meanwhile, T'Nealle is now more focused on her own blog and well I've just been super busy with "life" (getting drunk on weekdays).

This weekend is the first weekend of the mid semester break, so to celebrate that, and the fact that winter is nearly over, The Log Cabin is hosting the second annual Woolly Jumper party. Last year, hosted on a wintery (almost snowing) night by Team Awesome- we're hoping to relive the glory of mulled wine, port and hideous sweaters on a not so cold Sunday afternoon.

And because the Log Cabin are elitist snobs we gave out physical invites to this event- and decided that putting it on FBK would only encourage the uninvited. The invites were sweet little lolly bags with cookies inside them, made by T'Nealle and myself before getting super happy at Chez Jas last week.

Next weekend, being the last weekend of the last weekend of August, The Log Cabin will be playing host to the wonderful birthday affair of Mr. D-Klein. I'm super excited about my costume.

The Ultimate Flat Dinner

Sunday flat dinners are a fairly regular occurrence in the Log Cabin. A few weeks ago Eamonn made the mega vege roast, which kept him, and others well fed for several days after the fact.

Pretty much thinking this couldn't be topped, I attempted flat dinner the Sunday just been. Usually flat dinners are a very social occasion with guests from all over the city invited to join. This week, flat dinner was the log cabin and T'Nealle, who is well... still totally a log cabiner.

It was declared that the vege lentil pie was the best ever, and T'Nealles amazing dessert pizza made us all guilty of gluttony. There isn't a lot left over, especially after David consumed half a pizza.

Sunday is going to be hard to top.

Flat Crawl

So the log cabiners celebrated The Albanifest by partaking in a flat crawl with our fellow neighbourhood dwellers.

So here are some pics from the first ever SACK (St. Albans Cool Kids) Flat Crawl

First stop was Cranford St Castle... They had more beer than the SACK's could handle and amazing pizza.
From there we went to Edgeware to T'nealles place, where she and Mr. Cooler than a Log Cabin made delicious asian fusion treats and amazing punch.
After T'nealle, once again proving how awesome she is, we had to stop at "the local". The Edgeware local is named 1066 after its street address. Clever. It also claims it is where "everyone meets a friend". John met 2 new friends, perhaps it was his stylish bunny suit that did it for the local folk of St. Albans.

Not too sure what happened here... It looks like Fionn, David and James were attempting the pokies in the bar.

Some of us, prefered to check out the brews which they had on offer.

Stop 4 on the crawl was Sherborne, where things were deep fried, David made friends with a cat, and as you can see here, with John (its that bunny suit, I tell ya)... Fionn scored some free pizza when going to ask the Edgeware pizza place for a light for his cigarette. St. Albans- so very friendly.

At the log cabin, stop 5 was Margaritas (Fran specialty) and nachos.
Not sure how, why or whatever, a vivid marker made an appearance and then everyone got knuckle decorated.

It was at this point that we were joined by the famous Tommy Ill and Brian from the Crackhouse. The SACKS were honoured to have them in our presence. Some of the many "knuckle art" from the flat crawl. Most of these pictures were taken at Nick/Henry/Stephen/Kate's (The Creek House) which was stop 6. Stop 7 was The Punks. They made awesome punch too... By then everyone was too drunk to care about food.

I think we're finally getting some action..

.. on here again.

Might be due to the long nights, or the crisp weather. Or the fact that university has once again started and we have time and internetz to burrn.

Blogging in our house is so last month now. Well, in reality, everyone is writing their own personal blogs and leaving the cabin blog dormant.

Updates around here? Yes our new living room is in the hall way. Its small, and bare but full of heat. We all sit around a 2 seater couch watching cheesey youtube videos and listening to 90s music. Its nice that we're at least all hanging out together agagin.

Crackhouse came and went. We had a show in our house. It was uneventful. Us cabiners were plagued with various illnesses that weekend and suffered from a little wine flu from the flat crawl the night before so we all went to bed early and kicked everyone out. Soz guys.

All but Fran (with her degree and real job) have come back to uni. The thought of our house being empty right now is weird!

Fran has a new (kinda) job which means she can only do work at work not go on fcbk. This should be interesting.

My computer is still broken, as is eamonn's, so not many of us have time/ access to update this but fingers crossed this will change now that we're back at UC.

Until next time!

Ps, We've run out of firewood, here's hoping we dont resort to slowly bit by bit burning every log that makes our cabin. I see already some wooden furniture has been sacrificed to create heat to keep us alive.

Being Social.

Log cabin dwellers have taken up residence in the hallway. Its warmer, there's a couch in there left from when the Crackhouse played in David's room. There is a night store heater which pumps out the warmth....

especially good when the pipes have frozen meaning there is no hot water.

Love you Christchurch winter.

This Blog is fucking lame

I love this house

I hate this blog

It's full of the type of jokes that should end in LOL WUT but the people who write for this blog are not very good at those types of jokes so they just put in CRAZY and ZANEY photos of all of the WACKY stuff we get up to in THE LOG CABIN

I am currently listening to Shellac quite loud as I am the only one home, I'm feeling kinda angry I don't really know why. I might clean the house and attempt to clean my room today probably wont though.

Things which have happened

Our fridge broke. It just stopped working. So we ate all the food we could. Yum
While a new fridge is on the way, the current 'fridge' is the laundry, which is inexplicably cold. Handy.

Netta got a bike. Melinda got a bike. Eamonn's bike moved in to the hallway. A mysterious bike appeared in the driveway. My bike is happy in my room. Fran's scooter spends the night on the patio. Repeat after me - four wheels good, two wheels better!

Our fire place has been keeping us warm. It's nice to come home and hear it roaring.

The Cabin stereo has been playing Neutral Milk Hotel and A Silver Mt Zion.

I've been studying at uni, so haven't been home much lately. I have been blogging though, over at the colour of my love for you

We hope you are well

So our property managers moved office

And they decided a good thing to do was send the log cabin a copy of Belle Interior design magazine. This magazine had handy directions on how to make the log cabin more designer friendly.

We have decided that we liked this look best:

We're working on the plans now to put a second story on our verandah and a pool in the front yard.

Bad refrigeration luck

The gremlins fridge has died.

The log cabin spent two months without a fridge over summer, and we survived fine. One day a happy hippy from Brighton offered us a free fridge. Then one cold winter's Queens Birthday weekend, the free fridge, decorated lovingly with Gremlins trading cards, gave up on life.

So now all the food is in the laundry and we're hoping that there is not a heat wave any time soon.

"Don't make me smash you again!"

Yes its official, battery can affect us all, even in the Log Cabin.
Everyone's favourite newly weds to be have become victim to what is commonly known as "wife bashing"

Hey David:

Yeah fuck you David its not OK.

Mmmm I did a focus group in Rolleston, 'the town of the future', today. I met a man who was the highest qualified embalmest in the southern hemisphere. he has 5 qualifications in it!!!! Though, he doesn't embalm very much anymore. except when his dad dies, and 4 of his kids W.T.F?!!!!!!

Also, the physics department at uni were throwing out a whole load of models of molecules so David has acquired several and we're going to make mobiles/ lanterns/ art out of them. Exciting! Look at these nice pictures of molecules. The first on is caffeine and its my favourite. But I don't have a model of one of those..

Mmm just having a wee listen to the lullabys show on rdu ( Wed 11pm) and drinking a beer for dinner as i cannot really think of what to make for dinner apart from toast. Which I may make now. And then go read a case. and analyze it. then sleep. with an electric blanket. and a hottie. of the rubber, water filled kind.. not the kind you pay to sleep with you eh..

Goodnight xo
